Facing pain

I took these photographs.
Like I usually do.
Almost thoughtlessly.
Without deliberating the subject.
Or the essence behind my motive.
Only seeing the bigger picture.
Until now.
When I zoomed in.
And focused.
And saw the pain and suffering I exposed.
Capturing a lifetime of anguish.
And agony.
With a click click click.
Shutting out the light.
Just to preserve an image.
I feel ashamed.

I realize that I live on the bubble of insanity. I feel the weight of human suffering, loneliness and despair on me all the time. It’s not getting easier; if anything, it’s always right on the edge of my skin. – Erwin McManus
